When Curiosity Became Experience

Part 5: There Has to Be Something I Don't Know

A person looking across a calm lake at sunrise, representing the moment curiosity becomes lived experience.

💗💗💗

By this point, curiosity had changed the way I approached learning.

I wasn't looking to prove or disprove anything anymore.

I wasn't looking for spirituality.

I was simply open to learning.

And life had a way of meeting me there.

💗💗💗

Years before, my mom and sister had tried Reiki on me to help with my chronic pain.

The first time, I didn't feel anything.

The next time, I remember feeling warmth.

I assumed it was simply the warmth from my mom's hands.

That explanation made sense to me.

So I didn't think much of it.

I moved on.

Looking back now, I understand why I couldn't register much of what was happening then.

But that's a story for another time.

Hands hovering gently during a Reiki session, representing an experience that was initially dismissed and later understood differently.

💗💗💗

Years later, Reiki found its way back into my life.

This time, I wasn't seeking it out because I wanted to become more spiritual.

I wasn't trying to prove anything.

I was simply open to learning wherever curiosity happened to lead me.

During one session, the practitioner wasn't in the room.

We had never spoken.

Before the session began, I quietly set an intention for where I wanted to receive the Reiki energy.

Then I waited.

What I experienced caught me completely off guard.

I felt distinct sensations in the exact places where I had set my intention.

It was a deep, tingling warmth.

Not just in the tissues.

It felt as though it reached my cells.

The warmth wasn't only physical.

It carried with it a profound sense of peace and love that I can't fully put into words.

Then I started crying.

Not because I was sad.

Not because I was in pain.

I simply couldn't understand why the tears were coming.

There was no physical touch.

No obvious explanation.

Just sensations and emotions I had never experienced before.

A single tear on a cheek in soft light, representing the unexpected emotional release of an experience beyond explanation

💗💗💗

My first response wasn't to immediately decide it was something spiritual.

It was the opposite.

I started going through every explanation I could think of.

Could I have imagined it?

Was it expectation?

Coincidence?

Was there something else happening that I simply hadn't considered?

I kept asking questions.

Not because I wanted one answer more than another.

Because I genuinely wanted to understand.

And after I had gone through every explanation I knew...

I arrived at the only honest conclusion I could.

There has to be something I don't know.

An open doorway with light shining through, representing the willingness to accept there is more to learn.

💗💗💗

That sentence changed more than I realized at the time.

It wasn't about abandoning critical thinking.

If anything, it asked more of it.

It meant becoming willing to sit with experiences I couldn't immediately explain instead of rushing to dismiss them.

It meant accepting that not understanding something wasn't the same as proving it impossible.

For me, curiosity had become something more than an idea.

It had become experience.

A person standing between familiar and unknown landscapes, representing curiosity becoming lived experience.

💗💗💗

Looking back, I don't think Reiki changed my beliefs overnight.

It changed my willingness to admit that there was more to learn.

And once I became comfortable saying, there has to be something I don't know, I found myself approaching life very differently.

Not with blind belief.

But with openness.

That openness would eventually lead me toward experiences I never would have imagined.

But before I could trust those experiences...

I first had to learn to trust myself.

That's the story I'll share in the next blog.

A winding forest path disappearing into soft light, representing the next step in a continuing journey.

💗💗💗

Author's Note

Whether your curiosity leads you toward science, spirituality, art, nature, or something completely unexpected, I hope you never lose your willingness to ask questions.

Sometimes the most honest answer we can give ourselves is simply:

"I don't know yet."

And sometimes that's exactly where the next chapter begins.

With love,
